Cutting Glass Mosaic Tile

Tile nippers are made for ceramic tile, NOT glass.  Even if you are using vitreous glass tile, you will probably find that a regular tile nipper crushes or splinters the tile more often than not.  A  mosaic glass cutter is the proper hand tool for glass tile including smalti.  It makes much more precise cuts with less waste and usually sells in the US for around $20 or less.  Considering that the cost of one square foot of tile can run anywhere between $8 to $20, the mosaic glass cutter usually pays for itself in material savings.

The mosaic glass cutter is easy to use and operates just like a tile nipper, the only difference being that the blades are shaped like small wheels.  The edges of these wheels are more tapered than the jaws of a tile nipper, and this is what is needed to cut glass tile instead of crushing it.
